A major deal has been struck for the sale of a small piece of land from the Ararat forest to an Indigenous land rights group.

ATLCAA’s board has accepted $400,000 of the $1.6 million.
It is the biggest compensation payment to indigenous groups, according to the independent legal experts, who were not affiliated with the parties involved.
The land comes with heavy baggage, including heavy fees in addition to hefty royalties from the Ararat Forests Trust.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates that the forest has lost value from all mining and logging activities.
ATLCAA President and CEO Dave Panno, told the ABC he had been keen to get the deal done because “it’s my community we are tr바카라사이트ying to protect”.
“It’s our community that gave us this site,” he said.
“I’ve got two kids in the Ararat village, a lot of my friends are Aboriginal, and I don’t want them to be in danger.
“I was pretty much convinced that there was absolutely no chance of us being able to afford to keep that site in this state because of what the mining companies had done and how much they had put our people out of work.”
The site can hold hundreds of square kilometres with hundreds of native people living on the land.
The legal expert believes there is some significant risk to the land from the heavy mining activities that are already taking place there.
But Dr Peter Lewis says a big deal needs to be considered because it will increase the likelihood of a dispute over that valuable land breaking out.
He told the ABC the deal would be a success for Australia.
“This deal means our communities get compensation for land that they’ve taken out of a community,” he said.
The legal experts had been studying the purchase of Ararat by Australian and British governments for about six months.
